Focus and Scope

History of Sociology. Annual Review publishes peer-reviewed articles in the field of contemporary studies in the history of sociology and social sciences. It is especially concerned with studies that examine sociology’s own historical background and interdisciplinary influence in an effort to review current practices and develop new research directions. Therefore it treats the history of sociology as an integral part of sociology. "History of Sociology. Annual Review" publishes three kinds of texts: articles, book reviews, and materials. Articles should communicate research results integrating sociological methods and interpretations with a dynamic historical overview. We wish to cooperate locally and internationally in publishing works of all scholars interested in the field of history of sociology and its related disciplines. We encourage creative writing positions in all kinds of theoretical approaches to make a wide range of discussions for different sociological traditions, notions, and ideas. History of Sociology. Annual Review was founded in 2011 and it provides open access to all texts free of charge. The main language of the journal is Polish but we accept texts also in English and German.

Peer Review Process

Peer-review process:

All of the journal’s content is peer reviewed (research articles, review articles, conference reports, letters, notes).

  1. The corresponding author submits the manuscript via email.

  2. The submitted manuscript checked by the editorial team secretary against the journal’s Author Guidelines.

  3. The manuscript is checked by the Editor-in-Chief or the editorial team members appointed by him (adequacy for the journal’s thematic profile and originality). The papers may be rejected at this stage without being reviewed by the external reviewers .

  4. The editorial team secretary (or the handling editor of the special thematic issue) sends invitations to experts in the given field in order to assign two external reviewers. When declining, the experts are asked to suggest alternative reviewers.

  5. The reviewers (with a help of the review form) submit their opinions to the journal with a recommendation to accept or reject the paper. Requests for revision (flagged as either major or minor) are also possible.

  6. The Editor-in-Chief considers the reviews before making the final decision. If the reviews differ widely, additional experts may be invited to review the paper.

  7. The final decision whether to publish the article, request improvements, or reject the article is made by the Editor-in-Chief.

  8. The secretary of the editorial team communicates the overall decision via e-mail to the author and forwards the relevant reviewer comments with a clear statement, whether the manuscript has been: accepted for publication; accepted but requires some improvements; rejected.

  9. If the author disagrees with the reviewers’ remarks, he/she is obliged to present adequate counterarguments. If the discussion does not lead to consensus, the authors have right to withdraw their papers.

  10. The authors who accepted the remarks are obliged to include the suggested and agreed improvements and upload the corrected version of the text within 14 days. Articles uploaded after this deadline will be published in the next issue of the journal.
